The Group discusses a variety of different historical subjects including political, social and local topics from any period and anywhere in the world. Topics are proposed by members and form the subject of the group discussions. Most sessions will involve a member giving a short introduction to a topic of their own interest and choosing,
The Autumn’s first session focused on Artificial Intelligence. Run by Steve Niebel, the meeting began with fruit cake recommended by AI, which incorporated a number of the members’ dietary parameters. Steve went on to demonstrate how we could generate models using a 3D printer and specialist software from just a photograph.
While members are also keen to try out AI cocktails in the summer months possibly with a cryogenic twist, our October session concentrated on getting us into the Christmas spirit by silvering glass bottles . This was done by precipitating silver particles onto glass containers using a process that was used to make mirrors in Victorian times. Many tears were shed by Nick as he made the reagent by adding concentrated ammonia to silver nitrate but the resulting mirrored bottles were amazing.

The Impressionist Art Group are showing the film Renoir Revealed and Reviled from 2pm on TUESDAY 3rd November at the Friends Meeting Hall, Priory Road, Chichester. We ask for a £3 contribution to the hire of the hall (or £5 by bank transfer) for the November and December films.
With the opening of the Renoir exhibition at the National Gallery, this looks at his later works collected by Albert C Barnes – some 180 in all, which are exhibited at the Barnes Foundation in Pennsylvania.
As always, we will have free tea and coffee so come along and marvel at the Renoirs on show.

We currently have a vacancy – in an unusual book group where we nominate a country each month and then choose our own book to read; it can be fact, fiction, poetry, even a cookbook. It just needs to relate to the country of choice. We meet on the last Friday of each month (except
Playing a musical instrument keeps the brain sharp and active. If fingers let you down, keys can be adapted. And playing in a group encourages the skills of listening and working together and is FUN!
The group is friendly, supportive and always welcoming to new players. Once a month a recorder professional comes to spur us on and advise as needed.
We meet weekly on Tuesdays 2-4pm in a large, comfortable ground floor lounge where I live on The Hornet, so no access problems. The 700 and 51 buses stop outside and there are two car parks 6-8mins walk away, one free for 3 hours. (Parking onsite is limited but may be possible).
