Event Type

Our May speaker, Dr Thomas Buchsein will talk about his role as a medical intensivist and emergency medicine specialist for 30 years.

Dr Thomas Buchsein has been a medical intensivist and emergency medicine specialist for 30 years and spent many years carrying out alpine and offshore helicopter emergency missions in Germany.

24 years ago he became involved with worldwide medical assistance. This role took him to all medical specialties and all parts of the world and it also involves some interesting and challenging repatriations by commercial flights as well as by air ambulance.

He would like to share with you not only some of the stories but also the lessons learned from these – one of his latest being the air ambulance return of a 32 year old UN interpreter with severe COVID-19 pneumonia from Kabul to Geneva.

Dr Buchsein would welcome questions and can perhaps explain what your medical travel insurance covers you for, or not, when you are away on holiday, and what happens if you are admitted to hospital in Egypt for example.

He has given presentations on many medical conferences over the years and welcomes the invitation to talk to our u3a, expecting a less formal and more interactive and personal format – one he is very much looking forward to.

Please note that this event will be preceeded by our AGM.
