What’s On in Chichester u3a?

Due to the current situation with Covid-19, we are using the Zoom platform to hold virtual Events. These are in addition to Groups which are running on Zoom and are therefore open to all Chichester u3a members.  Click on the links to see more information. These Zoom events have been a wonderful way of easing isolation and a chance to meet new people. Friendships have been formed and we all hope to meet in person when we are permitted to do so.

COFFEE MORNINGS. These are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 10am.

COFFEE MORNINGS    These are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 10am.  There will be a link sent out in the preceding Bulletin which will enable you to join this meeting on Zoom. This is not only an opportunity to chat with your friends and with other members but to find out more about our current activities.  We have break-out rooms at the Zoom meeting for Groups, New Members and Ideas and other small rooms where you can chat privately with friends, if you prefer. When you enter the main Zoom meeting, there will be a Zoom host who will guide you through the process and enable you be with friends and in a room of your choosing if any are of interest to you.

If you are finding Self-Isolation difficult or just want to chat to others, this is an excellent way of staying in touch.

Do let us know (by clicking the link in the Bulletin) if you would like to attend – although registration is not compulsory, it helps us to set up the Zoom meeting knowing how many members will be attending.

MONTHLY TALKS. We have a new speaker booked to talk on the third Thursday of every month at 2pm on a wide range of interests.

MONTHLY TALKS    We have a new speaker booked to talk on the third Thursday of every month at 2pm on a wide range of interests. The variety of subjects selected should appeal to all our members.  These have proven to be very popular and are well attended. After each meeting we will set up “break-out” rooms to enable you to continue the afternoon’s entertainment by discussing the talk and just chatting to friends and members. Click on the calendar to find out about our next talks.

QUIZ EVENINGS   We are delighted that one of our members has volunteered to organise and run quizzes once a month on Zoom.

QUIZ EVENINGS   We are delighted that one of our members has volunteered to organise and run quizzes once a month on Zoom.  We usually start at 7.30pm, usually on a Tuesday evening and the quiz lasts for about an hour. It’s all very informal and good fun.  There are varied subjects and something for everyone. Settle down with the beverage of choice, your lucky mascot, pen and paper and come and meet a lovely group of quizzers. All abilities welcome.  We send information in the weekly Bulletin about forthcoming quizzes; click on the link there to register.

PHOTO COMPETITION   We have recently started a photo competition and would love to use some of your photos!

PHOTO COMPETITION   We have recently started a photo competition and would love to use some of your photos! We have a mixture of happy snappers and those with a keen interest in photography, all are welcome. These can be submitted here and you can see the photos which have already been submitted here.  This is run as a monthly competition but it is very informal – we ask members to vote on their favourite “Photo of the Month”. Although there isn’t a prize it’s lovely to see your photos up on the website, so please do join in. You will find all the relevant links on the Home Page.

WALKS   We invite you to send in descriptions of your favourite local walks

WALKS   We invite you to send in descriptions of your favourite local walks, whether by the sea or on the Downs or even in your town or village.  If you have an accompanying photo, so much the better.  You can view the walks and submit your own favourite walks by clicking the links on the website Home page.   Hopefully we’ll all be out and about again soon to take advantage of the lovely area in which we live.  In these difficult times a walk rejuvenates you and fills you with cheer!

IN-PERSON SOCIAL EVENTS   What we might do in the future.

It does seem such a very long time ago that we enjoyed social gatherings without fear of breaking social distancing rules or not being permitted to enjoy any kind of social gathering, which is the life-

blood of our u3a. Meeting old friends and making new ones is essential to our wellbeing.
We are of course looking forward to resuming the popular activities which we shared, shown below.
If you have ideas for other activitities which we could participate in together, once the restrictions are
lifted, please email your suggestions to chair@chichesteru3a.org.uk

SKITTLES LUNCHES
Skittles lunches have previously been a favourite event for members and were held several times a
year at The Barley Mow in Walderton. The pub provides us with a magnificent buffet lunch and
welcoming staff who take care of us very well indeed. A lovely venue with easy parking and a
delightful trip through the West Sussex countryside to get there.
Unfortunately, as with many wonderful activities which we enjoyed previously, these are now on
hold. Once we reconvene with all normal contact permitted and no swabbing of skittles or wearing
of face masks whilst eating lunch necessary, there will be a skittles lunch in our calendar.
We have a vacancy on the committee for a Social secretary and welcome you to join our
enthusiastic team of volunteers. Please email chair@chichesteru3a.org.uk
TRIPS AND OUTINGS
Trips and Outings have been an opportunity in the past for a great day out to places of interest, and
for making new friends. If you have any suggestions for visits or outings when we can reinstate
them, please contact chair@chichesteru3a.org.uk We will be looking for a team to co-ordinate
these trips and would love to hear from you if you would like to help.

CHRISTMAS LUNCH

For many years we have enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch at the Chichester College restaurant. These events were always popular and we hope to hold another this year. Something to look forward to!

PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU HAVE OTHER IDEAS FOR SOCIAL EVENTS.
