Poem
“u3a“
by Marilyn Burwell
What can I do now I am retired As in my working life I’m no longer required I’ve been employed since I was sixteen Although I did manage to fit in a child or two in between I feel washed up, not needed any more Not knowing what life ahead has in store I feel my life just stopping short What can I do as a last resort You can look after the grandkids, I hear my kids say I suppose it’s like being in work but without any pay. I love them all dearly but I need something for me I don’t want to disappear, I need my identity I want my own space I tell a friend one day It was then that she told me of the U3A I googled it, investigated, and went along And immediately felt that I did belong Now my days are full of activities and fun Living my own life has now begun I can choose from so many subjects All within sound reasonable budgets |

Book Group Vacancy
Book Group 8 is a small, friendly group with 2 vacancies.
We meet on the first Tuesday morning of the month for 10 months of the year, September-June. Every year we choose a theme which links the 10 books, but for 2024-5 we have taken a different approach by selecting 10 books from group members personal ‘memorable’ lists. The final list is as diverse as Turgenev, Grahame Greene, Mary Wesley and Bonnie Garmus.
If you are interested in joining us contact me, Mo Frost, via the Groups Team here.

AN INVITATION TO SOME SUMMERTIME MUSIC-MAKING!
The Recorder Group will be meeting on two Tuesday afternoons in August : 20th and 27th at its usual time of 2pm to 4pm. Because some players will be on holiday these sessions can be a bit different.
I would like to invite any u3a members who used to play recorder in the past and would like to see if they still can, to come along to one or both sessions and play some simple tuneful music just right for a summer’s day in the company of regular players.
This is a friendly, supportive group and will help you along if you’re at all uncertain.
We meet where I, as leader, live, which is on The Hornet. If you would like to come along, please reply to glrecorderensemble@mail.chichesteru3a.org.uk
Tell me about your playing background and what instruments you have and would like to try out. You will need to bring a music stand, of course, but I will provide the music. I look forward to hearing from you!
