Recorder Ensemble

Description

Primary category: Music & Opera

Wide range of music for SATB recorders. Not for beginners

The group started up in 2007 with many changes of players over the years. It comprises descant, treble, tenor and bass. We play music from early to modern times, which is provided. Members need bring only their recorders and a music stand. The group is not suited to anyone who plays only one instrument as that limits the music we can play. Ability to play bass would be especially valuable. To join, you need to be familiar with recorder fingerings, able to read music and follow a beat. You should be able to play basic scales and arpeggios because this is a group for improvers, not beginners. It’s an aspirational group, so regular attendance is hoped for: it isn’t suited to anyone likely to take lots of time out. From time to time, we give a short public performance, so a readiness to practice at home is important. The group is friendly and supportive and will enable players to improve playing skills or take up a new instrument. A recorder professional comes monthly to conduct, paid for by the Group Leader. Members can make a donation towards this, if they want to – there is no requirement. We play in a large well-ventilated room with space between players. The venue is on the 51 and 700 bus routes, limited car parking, otherwise 6-7 mins walk from the Cattle Market car park.
