Dear Chichester u3a member,

Monthly Meeting

The next Monthly Meeting will be on Thursday 18th February at 2pm on Zoom

This month we are looking forward to musical entertainment by soprano Jennifer Parker-Lummis, a graduate from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. As a free-lance singer Jennifer has written, directed and performed four successful one-woman shows and she is a recommended speaker for the WI, the Masons and U3A.  ‘A Light-hearted look at Opera’ is a pastiche that Jennifer has created, bringing us favourite songs and arias ranging from ‘Madame Butterfly’ to ‘The Phantom of The Opera’, punctuated with amusing anecdotes about their origin.

Zoom details will be sent out a few days before the event

The Next U3A Quiz!

The next U3A Quiz by Zoom will be on Tuesday, 23rd February at 19.30

We need to keep numbers manageable, so the number of attendees will be limited to 20.  You can enter singly or with the person with whom you are in isolation!  We will take names on a first come, first served basis, so if you would like to join us please email me, the organiser, giving your name(s) and I’ll get back to you with confirmation of your booking.

We will admit attendees from the Zoom Waiting Room in time for a 7.30pm start.  There will be 5 rounds of 10 questions each.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Hope you’re all keeping well

Groups News

Zoom for Groups

As some of you already know, Chichester U3A has purchased a second Zoom Pro licence for use by Groups.
If you are interested in using this facility, pleaseuse the drop-down contact form below for booking/further information.
This licence only allows one meeting at a time.  Currently we have 8 groups booked in and so far have had no conflicts.  Please be aware that if there are conflicts, groups may be asked to change regular meeting dates/times in order to share zoom time fairly and accommodate as many meetings as possible.

Your Favourite Walks

We now have a “Your Favourite Walks” section in the Bulletin and we now have the beginnings of a collection of these walks on the website here.  We are inviting members to submit a description of a local walk which they have enjoyed personally and which might appeal to other members.  If you have a favourite walk to contribute  please send it to us using this form.

We have been asked if we could post a walk suitable for wheelchairs from time to time – if anyone has one to recommend that would be much appreciated.

Prinsted to Nutbourne alongside Chichester Harbour

The route:
Start at the carpark at Prinsted, by the Scout Hut: SU765050, PO10 8HS. Walk east along the coastal path. After about a mile, turn left at a waymarked footpath by a wooden bench. Continue for a third of a mile until you reach a crossroads of lanes. Here turn left, and the lane soon becomes a footpath. Follow footpaths with some twists but in a broadly westerly direction until you reach the road at Prinsted. Turn left to the car park.Walk: a 3 mile circular between Prinsted and Nutbourne, with a beautiful coastal stretch along Chichester Harbour.

Terrain: the first 100 yards is flat and even. The rest of the coastal path is easy walking, but a bit puddly after rain. The inland return route can be muddy in places. A slightly longer, mud-free option, is to walk up to the A259 at Nutbourne and turn left to the Prinsted turning.

Photography Competition

You have until Wednesday 17th to submit your photographs for our February Competition.  The subject of the February competition is:

There have been some stunning photographs sent in for our competition this month, but with our competition closing for submissions at midnight on Wednesday 17th February there are only 5 more days left for you to submit your entries.

The weather has been so cold that even going out at the moment is a chore, but there have been some tantalising sunsets in the past week.  Perhaps you have lovely sunsets hidden on your computer or phone you might like to let us see.  Something to do whilst we are still locked down?

You can view the current entries in the Photo Gallery HERE.

You may submit your photos until 23:59 February 17th. For the submission form: Click here
We will be voting on the winners from 18:00 February 19th to 23:59 February 24th , and the winner will be announced in the Bulletin on February 26th.

Would anyone like to either lecture or run a regular zoom group on photography for Chichester U3A? Or perhaps someone would like to give individual sessions on wildlife photography, composition, etc. If so, please contact us HERE.
