Shared Learning Projects ( projects for various dates are shown).
A series of Research Retreats where members of the U3A can help us delve into the archives to help us examine key milestones in the history of liberty, protest, rebellion and reform.
Most Research Retreats will be held at Royal Holloway’s campus in London and more dates will be added, so please do check back from time to time for updates.
Tuesday, September 17th, 2019, 11:00 to 16:00 at Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent’s Park Road. London NW1 7AY.
For a second year, Alan Barnes and his octet have agreed to entertain and enlighten us about jazz, this time focusing on the instruments in the band and the all-important personalities that energise jazz music. This will be the World Premiere of Alan’s new project.
Wednesday, September 18th, 2019, 10:30 to 16:00 at ‘We The Curious’, Anchor Road, Harbourside, Bristol BS1 5LL.
We The Curious is a cultural venue in the heart of historic Bristol, offering exciting and stimulating experiences based around science and the arts. U3A members are invited to enjoy a day out with a difference. Every day another ‘Earth-like’ planet is discovered somewhere in the universe. But how do we detect these ‘exoplanets’, could they support life and what might that life look like anyway? This exciting day starts with a 3D show in our incredible, full-dome Planetarium and features three hands-on workshops.
Thursday, September 25th, 2019, 10:30 to 16:00 at St Fagan’s National Museum of History, St Fagan’s, Cardiff CF5 6XB
The exclusive U3A study day will take place in the museum, set in 100 acres of beautiful parkland in the village of St Fagan’s, just outside of Cardiff. The day will include three historical talks and two hours of free time to explore the museum and all it has to offer in your own time. A plenary session at the end of the day will give you the opportunity to ask questions.
Step into the past through the world famous open-air museum and explore historic buildings brought to St Fagans from across Wales, such as St Teilo’s Church (built between 1200 and 1500 and re-erected at St Fagan’s in 2007), Oakdale Workman’s Institute (built in 1916 and re-erected at St Fagan’s in 1995), and Nantwallter Cottage (built about 1760 and re-erected at St Fagan’s in 1993), to name but a few.
