Chichester U3A Treasurer
For personal reasons, Chris Waller, our current Treasurer, has asked to be relieved from his duties as soon as possible and, whilst thanking Chris for all he has contributed, we are therefore now seeking applications for his replacement.
The role is an important one within the Executive of the Trust, and requires the holder to become both a Committee Member and a Trustee of the Charity. The purpose of the role is to protect the financial assets of the Trust by ensuring that all transactions are authorized and accounted for correctly, our accounting systems are up to date and to enable the effective management of our organization. At year end the role ensures that annual accounts are presented to our auditor for scrutiny and subsequent publication to members.
The role will suit somebody who is numerate, possibly with a business-related background or accounting/treasury experience in a charity or other operation. They should be team players but aware of the need to uphold the accuracy and probity of our Charity’s work. The role will take up to 3 days a month of one’s time, perhaps slightly more in the final month of the accounting year to enable accounts to be drawn up and audited. An additional half-day a month is involved in attending various Trust Meetings as a Senior Member of the Committee.
If you are interested in finding out more, and to receive a full job description plus U3A Trust Guidelines for Trust Management, please contact your Chair, Andrew Walker on firstname.lastname@example.org for a confidential chat and to provide your personal career data.
Ongoing Treasury Operations
Please contact our Chair, Andrew Walker, email@example.com for urgent matters relating to Treasury matters, payment of bills, paying in etc. whilst we are without a Treasurer – otherwise please continue to process transactions in the normal way. Book keeping services have been taken on to assist us in the interim period, so please ensure that any request for payment or details of payees are carefully recorded on, and attached to normal documentation.
Remember the Limerick competition?
All of the limericks submitted by members were considered equally good and it was difficult to select our entry for the Local U3A Chairman’s Competition.
The committee members limericks were not considered as they were handed the task of deciding on our entry!
It was thought that it would be advantageous to use a limerick which specifically mentioned Chichester U3A in the verse of the limerick.
On that basis the limerick by Richard France met the bill and was unanimously chosen by the committee members for our entry.
The committee would like to thank Ruth Appleby, Linda Brown, Gemma Hooper and Jan Tavinor for their very clever limerick.
‘What erudite folk!’ they all say,
‘Are Chichester’s own U3A,
They go to great pains,
Renovating their brains,
Growing older and wiser each day.’
