AGM – WWI Battlefield Tour – New Strummers Group – Jazz Study Day in London

Unfortunately there were not sufficient members present at the AGM and Monthly Meeting yesterday
to form a quorum, which meant that the AGM had to be adjourned. A quorum is ten percent of the
membership, meaning that we needed 96 members present.
As you may be aware, many of the Committee are due to step down, having served their term of office.
It is therefore essential that these members are replaced as soon as possible in order for the Chichester U3A to continue to function.
We have nominations from the following members but they cannot be voted onto
Committee unless there are sufficient members present at the adjourned AGM to form a quorum.
    Chair: Andrew Walker
    Vice Chair: Wendy Andrews
    Treasurer: Christopher Waller
    Secretary: Jane Church
Committee Members: Jill Cook, Ray Davies, Carolyn Draughn, John Harris, Angela Sewell
The documents (Chair’s report, Treasurer’s Report, Accounts etc) are available here; access will require a password, which is given in the email.
If you value your membership of the U3A you must come and vote. Your new Committee is currently
working hard to examine ways in which Chichester U3A can improve, implementing changes where
Please support us by attending the adjourned AGM on 21 st June 2018.
The AGM will be followed by the previously advertised meeting, featuring a talk by Philip Robinson entitled ‘How the War came to an End – or did it?’.
Refreshments will be served from 13:30 to 13:45.

  3. Trip to the hidden battle fields of WW1 (with Bognor U3A): October 4th to 8th.
As the anniversary of the end of WW1 approaches, we are making our last five day visit to the battlefields of northern France and southern Belgium.  Among the various places we shall visit are the British Cemetery at Lijssenthoek where the only woman is buried, the Trench of Death at Dixmuide, Vladso German cemetery and the statue of the grieving parents.  Then to Pervyse and the Advanced Dressing Station run by Mairi Chisholm and Elsie Knocker.  Time in the Ypres Salient and at the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate in the evening, and finally to Mons where it all started in 1914 and ended at more or less the same place four years later.   Just time to visit Lille to shop, hurrah, or to look at the new city built around the Eurostar link.   We will be staying at a Best Western hotel in Mouscron: coach, guide and all meals [except lunch] are all included in the price, £559 [SPS: £99] Depart October 4th.
