Dear Chichester U3A Member

    • We have had a few problems with email delivery: three addresses failed in the first week, and two in the second. Three of these were to members with btinternet addresses. This btinternet problem is not unique to us, nor to Beacon, but I am not aware of any surefire solution. One tentative suggestion I have met is for btinternet customers to try adding to their bt email account address book. Any feedback would be welcome.

    • Please do NOT put these messages into spam. If you’ve finished with it, put it in the bin, by all means. If you wish not to receive any more bulletins, then send an email to, with a subject of “unsubscribe from bulletins” or some such, and she will remove your name from the list of recipients.

  1. Messages from the Committee

It is with regret that we are letting everyone know that, after much thought, we have decided to resign from our roles as Chair and Vice-Chair. We are sorry that this step should be necessary.  As many of you know, Maureen became unwell through stress earlier in the year. The situation has not improved and, acting upon her doctor’s advice, is stepping down from some of her commitments. Since last year’s AGM, it has been a difficult year for both of us and we feel we must pass on the reins to others. Therefore, a new Chair and Vice-Chair will need to be elected at the AGM in May.  We are grateful to those who have given their support . Chichester U3A continues to grow and we look forward to an enthusiastic and successful future.

    Maureen & Tanya

  2. Groups

    • Recorder Ensemble
There is room for a couple more players in this group of 5 which meets weekly on Tuesday mornings 10.15-11.45 in Selsey. It isn’t for beginners but as long as you can read music and can play basic scales on the descant, treble or tenor recorders, you will be OK. We play a wide range of music from early to modern. You only need to bring a recorder and a music stand – I provide the music. The 51 bus (both directions) stops very close to my house in Selsey or there is on street parking. If you’ve played in the past, this is a good way of taking it up again. Playing a musical instrument is a proven way of keeping the whole brain active as well as a very enjoyable activity. If interested, please do contact me.
    • Croquet
Because of the dreadful weather, the lawns are not ready, so the first session will be on Wednesday 16th of May.

We play at the Croquet Courts at The Fishbourne Centre on the third Wednesday each month, between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. There will be a weekly charge of £5.00 per person, and the club need a minimum of 10 people every month to be viable.
Please confirm by contacting me, if you plan to join us for the first session.

Thanks again for your interest and I look forward to seeing you at Fishbourne.

    • Boules
Boules is due to recommence on Tuesday 17th April, starting at 2.00pm. We normally play every Tuesday afternoon, depending on the weather.
